Winter Klondike
20 February, 2009
The troop attended the Iditarod Winter Klondike at Camp Carlson, near Sauk City, on February 20-21. The scouts arrived Friday night to pitch their tents and enjoy a bonfire. They awoke the next morning to several inches of freshly falling snow. This proved to be perfect conditions for the event.
At a Boy Scout Klondike, troops from the area meet to compete in Boy Scout skills and enjoy each others’ company. Visiting troops traveled between nine stations using Klondike sleds, human-pulled versions of the Alaskan dogsled. The stations tested the scouts’ abilities in orienteering, fire building, knot-tying, first aid, and other areas.
